At the end of 2015, we worked for the municipality of Amsterdam on an issue about “making children exercise more”. Based on the refreshing ideas of children, the advice was to start a new sport concept called SpoRtify, sport on demand (see below for the complete advice).
SpoRtify, sport on demand
Develop a new sport concept. Be inspired by concepts such as Spotify, Airbnb and Netflix. Characteristics of this are paying for the service and not the product, not owning it, using it when it suits you and a wide choice. For sports in Amsterdam this means a service where you pay for exercise AND you can decide what, where and when. So you can also do multiple sports and you are no longer tied to 1 club. So once basketball, then football then 3x fitness. On an app you can easily see what, where and when is available. This can work with a monthly amount or with credits (sport coins) that you deposit on it. This allows you to easily get acquainted with different sports and then continue to do all kinds of different sports. Interesting for children, but also for parents who can therefore lead by example.
In line with the advice to make sports (for specific target groups) cheaper, the municipality can deposit monthly credits on the app of these target groups so that they can exercise cheaper and also use these credits only for sports.
Great to see that NOC * NSF, the collected sports associations and associations, want to make a variant of Sportify a reality!
